hooooorrrrayyyy! I found this and wanted to share. Looks like a few more Turkeys have spoken or were unable to hear the cries, ( ) and there are headphone-friendly races now. Too bad they are all a plane ride away.
I wonder if the Ridgefield 15k will make this list by Jan '10? somehow I think
(clipping below with my over-indulgence of smiley's) These events have given in and allow headphones. "There was no stopping grown people from using them," one marathon director says, "so what was the point?" Many of these do still encourage runners to lower the volume and keep one ear free. - Austin Marathon
- Big-D Texas Marathon
- Dallas White Rock Marathon
- Des Moines Marathon
- Green Bay Marathon
- Lake Tahoe Marathon
- Mayor's Midnight Sun Marathon (Anchorage)
- Melbourne and Beaches Marathon (Florida)
- Miami Marathon
- OC Marathon (California)
- Portland, Marathon (Oregon)
- Richmond Marathon
- San Francisco Marathon
- Surf City Marathon (Huntington Beach, California)
- Tucson Marathon

There is a decided "West o' the Mississippi" bent to that list. Maybe, "turkeys of a feather flock together." |

If you are "joking" then disregard this message.
if your posting is serious that you want headphone legal races, then the amount of disgust/dissapointment/utter lack of respect i now have hearing that you are an advocate of and for the "weak minded headphone wearing scum that have no mental fortitude whatsoever in a race that have to have my 'pump up music' on to make myself race harder" is absolutely off the F-ING charts.
if you can't 'get motived' enough to race hard on race day without headphones on during a race, you DO NOT DESERVE TO BE IN THE RACE AT ALL.
I have no problem if you want to listen to music all you want during your training runs/treadmill runs/swim workouts/run workouts/bike workouts, etc as long as they are all training on your own time.
SAVE THE F-ING HEADPHONES FOR YOUR PRACTICE TIME, NOT RACING IN A RACE!!!! F-ING PATHETIC!!! |

Reply with quote | #5 | PS. If you need "headphones" because of a hearing impairment or disability, then of course that should be allowed.
To everyone else who has good hearing but "needs their music during racing" f-ing pathetic! |

JHo -- I believe on the day in question, MB was nursing a bad case of "Irish Flu" and the race was a Boston Build-up 15K, so it was practically an organized training run... |

Reply with quote | #8 | DY, you have been around this forum long enough to know that JHo seems to enjoy being f-ing bothered by stuff.
Wonder how he feels about the folks running marathons in costume? |
