Recap from yesterday's Philly Marathon--perfect run conditions.  Temps started around 40 then rose to 50 a few hours later.  They combined the start of the marathon and 1/2 (new) which made for very congested conditions for first 10K+.  Would have been better had they split the runs, but oh well.  I followed CC's excellent advice from last year - grab on to the shirt of the 3:10 pacer and don't let him out of your sight.  Despite feeling really good at 1/2, I resisted the temptation and executed "tactical patience" and stayed by the 3:10 guy's side.  We held 7:15 +/- a few seconds the whole way.  Saw EdB after the turn-around at mile 20 and he looked GREAT.  Never saw the stealth Robbo...congrats to both guys on fantastic runs.  @ mile 23 water stop, the pacer gapped me and my calves started to quiver, so I decided to save the 3:10 barrier for another day and finish relaxed and running (passed lots of walkers who blew up).  When I saw Karen just before the finish, I high-5'd her and said, "We're going to Boston!"  It was a great moment in my life.  Thanks for all the kind words!  Happy Thanksgiving.  See you all next Saturday.  All the best, Stan

To all the Philly runners: CONGRATULATIONS!!  It will be a big WTC crew going up for Boston in April!  I'm looking forward to having lots of training partners for those early-season long runs.  Congrats again to you all!

Thanks for all the well wishers! The Philly Marathon was great! It's the second time I did it and I'm definitely going back. Congrats to Stan great run, wow! When I saw you at 20, well you might be the first guy I ever saw prancing in a marathon! Next time make it look hard ok? Good job Robbo, the only thing faster than your splits was how fast you got ready - showing up at 5 minutes to 8 for an 8 o'clock start!  This is a good race, good pacers, volunteers, the whole bit and great aid stations... paper towels for snot at mile 15... what's better than that?

Stan,

I looked for you at the 22 mile mark- were you wearing the team colors or a Lone Star running top. Like you I stayed right on the 320 mile pacer. Unfortunately he pulled up  at mile 16 and we were left to fend for ourselves. Congrag to you and Ed on great races.

Robbo - I was proudly wearing the bright orange top from the fall fashion line of the WTC.  Of course, I had a little bit of Texas on me, but those were the socks.  BTW--kudos on color choice b/c Karen said the orange top shined like a beacon among the mostly white tops out there.  Who knew that RI had such a taste for fashion?? :-)

Of course DY is a Boston qualifier as well -- he qualified by a mere 24 minutes!

Thanks for the note...but I also have no desire to feel THAT pain again until roughly 6:40 into the Kentucky Ironman on August 26th.

Pete McArdle 15K Race Result

59:14, 13th overall, 3rd 40-44 (I think)

My legs are way out of tri shape...yesterday's ride was still in my quads today (or maybe it was the 3 beers last night).  I was dead by the end of the 2nd lap and ran on fumes the 3rd lap (the course is 3 laps of the back hills).

Minor update to Pete McArdle results:

13th overall, 1st 40-44 AG in 59:16.  350 runners.

But the REAL fun is in the age graded results; I'm finally of an age when a so-so performance like this one (timewise) is meaningful when age graded (it translated to just over 55 min. in grading, though that was 14th place in the graded list).
