Darcy Ramsey-Hughes (Riverside, CT) took 2nd in Women 40-44 at Powerman Zofingen in 10:47:05.  That race has got to HURT !

Darcy could have gone much slower and still finished secong in her AG. There were only two women competing!

KC: by all accounts this year's Powerman Zofingen was a cold/rainy bike and two cold/rainy/muddy runs, (maybe reminiscent of the experience in LP in 2003 minus the mud?).. Not a lot of folks take on the challenge of long-course duathlon- its a hard race and nobody outside of multisport knows what it is, (with the consequent negative impact on bragging rights..).  I'm impressed with Darcy to even go over there and duke it out, and am sticking with Ironman because I'm pretty sure it's easier.....

Martin - agreed.  I was in no way denigrating Darcy's performance (as you can see by my first post).  I was merely commenting on the lack of competitors,...which, I'm quite certain is a result of the difficulty of the race.

Hey KC....no offense taken. I will be totally honest and admit that one of the reasons I decided to return to Zofingen was because it is a World Championship and I was fairly certain I could get on the podium there. I am tired of going to IMs and having 100 people in my AG! haha! Another reason was because I was there 11 years ago, won a gold medal in my AG, but that was the year before they officially declared it a World Championship. That year was epic (yes, even more epic than the famed April 5th ride). It was 38' and raining at the start, snowing at the top of the climbs...I got frostbite on my hands and cried when I finished. I have always wanted to go back...

This year it was 57' and windy and rain most of the day. They changed the bike course this year and it was an hour slower than the old course...! I only averaged 15mph on the bike!! Everyone there was TOTALLY hard core; no posers and weekend warriors! This race is certainly harder than IMLP; the first run is 10k, 2 loops that go straight UP and then straight DOWN. The bike is 98 miles done in 3 loops with 3 BIG climbs per loop; I was in my 27 going 5mph on all of them. There were also long inclines inbetween the climbs where I'd only be going 14 mph. The final run is 18 miles and very similar to Rocky's. My quads took a beating!

I would really recommend this race to all of you....yes, they get a low turn out because it IS hard, and the weather IS always nasty....but you'll be able to say you medaled at a World Championship!!!!  ;>

Darcy,  Congrats.  I remember when you and Janel traveled to the first  Zofingen; I think it was the first time I started running long - thinking I would do "Alabama Powerman" - or something like that.  Way to go - you are very motivating!!!
